Letter From Our Principal

While we enjoyed our time as Roofmeadow, we felt the need for a name that captures our vision rather than our specialty. We chose Studio Sustena to emphasize our commitment to sustainable design practice on and off structure. We design living systems. From our initial involvement in a project, we focus on enhancing the vitality of a site through a collaborative design approach.

In recent years, our team has had the opportunity to work on landscapes that interface from ground to sky creating integrated sites. Through this work we have found a passion for creating cohesive sites that adapt nimble storm water management solutions, healthy planting communities, and smart constructability.

The vitality of a landscape goes far beyond healthy planting. We design experiential spaces for communities to gather and connect. Every site has a purpose. We see through the details to find the core features that activate a landscapes potential. Whether a site is visually accessible or inhabitable we bring the same attention to how a landscape affects the audience.

Seeing our designs inspire a client, is our passion. Our work is highly collaborative. We enjoy working shoulder to shoulder on a team to produce a landscape that engage the imagination. Meetings should bring the design off the page and spur creativity among team members. When we engage clients in the design process, our goal is that they come away feeling enthusiastic about their site beyond their expectations.
